MIRAGE

Sometime in the night
Comes a rap tap tapping at my window
I awake with a jumpstart
What on earth can it be?
Should I believe my eyes
Without a doubt I see
Everybody that I've ever known in the world
Walking down the street.

Must be a supernatural delusion
I'm conjuring characters
I haven't seen in years
Alice merely laughs from her looking glass
Don't you know this soon will pass?
It's all illusion, just a mirage.

But there they are and they look real to me
A mad and motley panoply
The young man of swords, his lady queen of hearts
Future, past, an other worldly cast
Recent arrivals, the dearly departed
A new moon arising above
Mirage, mirage, mirage.

Up in a flash, I rush out the join them
A quick fade to black
Where did everybody go?
A sultan drives by in his magic car
"Hey there baby, want a ride to a star?"
"No, no, no, not today
But do you know the way to a mirage?"
I'm walking . . .just up ahead I see them
Oh, A mirage.

There they are and they look real to me
Wild cards from memory
The young man of swords
His lady queen of hearts
Future, past an other worldly cast
Sharks and birds and chattering cats
A new moon arising beyond
Mirage, mirage, mirage.

There they are and they look real to me
A mad and motley panoply
The young man of swords
His lady queen of hearts
Future past, an other worldly cast
Restless spirits, the chic and the dammed
A new moon arising beyond
Mirage, mirage, mirage.
